Get Up and Move!

Has sitting on the couch doing nothing ever made you more tired? For me, definitely. Resting is important for our bodies, but so is movement. Often when people are sitting or lying down for a long time, they lose productivity and motivation to do anything else, especially if they're scrolling on their phones. I personally have experienced many days when I'm just sitting around doing nothing all day and it doesn't feel good knowing I'm wasting my day away. This is why you should get up and move! Being active and moving gives the body more energy, and it makes you feel good mentally. Also, walking burns more calories than sitting on a couch. You don't have to go and do an intense workout; all you need to do is get up and get the blood flowing. Before you consider sitting down and doom scrolling, take a little break and get up and move!

Snacking!

I love to snack, who doesn't!? As much as I love food, there is a point to where it may be too much. It's okay to have nightly snacks or eat throughout the day but we need to watch how much we eat. My middle school PE teacher told me that you shouldn't bring the whole bag of chips with if you want a snack. Instead, we should just get a bowl or certain amount and if we're still hungry we can go back for more. If we put the entire bag next to us, typically we will eat at least half of it by ourselves. Eating that much in one sitting, especially if it isn't a healthy food, probably isn't the best. I know from experience that my stomach's gotten upset because I had one to many Doritos. Sometimes we don't even realize we eat that much if we're sitting on the couch bingeing a show. I don't think there's anything wrong with snacking, but we should just keep an eye on how much we consume and whether or not it's good for us.

Do Highschoolers Really Need a PE Class?

Throughout elementary and middle school, we are required to take a PE class. It is also required for 9th graders to take a class. But what about the rest of our high school years? I grew up going to Grove City Area School District, and I had a mandatory PE class up until 9th grade. After that, we had elective gym classes that were only a semester long, but they were focused on different subjects. We had Life and Leisure, Net and Racket Sports, and my personal favorite Team and Ultimate Sports. If we are no longer required to take a PE class, a lot of people decline in their physical activity. While there are those who are athletes and maintain constant activity, there are those who do not have the motivation to stay active. Physical activity helps us maintain a happy and healthy body, and it can prevent many illnesses and diseases. Without activity, our bodies can become weak or even obese. Having PE classes help us stay in shape and keeps our bodies functioning properly. There are no ...

Should people be required to swim in school?

Drowning is one of the most leading causes of death for young children. Young children tend to wander and could fall into a pool without you even realizing that they're missing. Even many adults today either do not know how to swim or cannot swim well. A vast majority of people have access to personal or community pools as well as beaches. During elementary school I remember having one week of learning to swim. I personally learned from my parents. You may never know when you might be in the middle of a flood or accidently swept out to sea while at the beach. Swimming not only a fun activity, but it is a skill that will save your life.
